“Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.” Romans 12:12
Families In Addiction is a Christian-based support group for families and friends whose lives have been affected by addiction. It was formed by two couples who have faced the daily struggles associated with having a loved one in addiction. Seeking answers, God placed it on their hearts to start a ministry where other people dealing with similar situations could come together and experience God’s love and guidance through turbulent times.
We believe any addiction is a spiritual problem, requiring a spiritual answer. Attending FIA for over a year has been life changing for me. This group has provided me a safe place where family members and friends of addicts have been able to speak freely about our similar situations. Together we are learning to get out of God’s way, and to allow Him to deal with the addict and to restore those of us who have enabled or facilitated that addiction.
We are also learning to rejoice even in the midst of our crises because rejoicing is hope! It is not wishing, but is confident in believing and patient in tribulation. Difficulties are a part of life. Whether God takes us out of difficulty or leads us through it, He wants us to look to Him for wisdom and strength, so that our faith grows stronger. His desire is for us to turn steadfastly in prayer to Him, the one who made us. During these trials, our prayers take on a new urgency, but God does hear our prayers and He does answer. He has a lesson for all of us during the worst times of our lives.
Families In Addiction meet here at Lake Valley every Thursday evening at 6:30 pm, upstairs in Seminar A. Child care is provided. If you want to talk, or if you have questions, we want to hear from you. Please contact me at 501-622-9840. Our God is amazing! – Carolyn Massanelli
