In October 2015, I joined the first Embracing Purpose class offered at Lake Valley. I like to describe it as more of a journey than a class. Each week, I grew closer to grasping the depth of Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
As a result of completing Embracing Purpose and much prayer, I felt God leading me to start a grief recovery group. Saying it now sounds so nonchalant, but believe me this was a huge step for me! In reality I kept telling myself, “You can’t do this, you don’t know how to start programs, you won’t do a good job, it’s too scary.” Notice all the negative thoughts that were going on in my head? Unfortunately, we have an enemy who likes to hold us back from doing Kingdom work. I am so grateful God’s whisper was stronger than Satan’s lies because in August 2016, we launched GriefShare and this year we will begin our sixth 13-week series on March 12th.
GriefShare is a video-based series featuring top Christian experts on grief and recovery and offers hope to those grieving the loss of a loved one through death. The videos are produced in an interesting format featuring interviews, real-life case studies, and on-location video. The small group time along with the workbook provides further help and encouragement. Our past participants became a family where love and understanding helped them move from deep grief to peace and a sense of joy again. I have found purpose for this season of my life. The beauty is that it is not about me, and yet it still fulfills a God-placed longing I had. The Lord will always be glorified when we trust His whispers and step out in faith.
